Wannabe cosplay tutorial #1. - Ciel Phantomhive

-Disclaimer-

After a long time I decided to do a tutorial after all. I was honestly kind of unsure since I thik that humans learn their whole life, so I know that after years my make-up skill will improve and I may not like this process after all.

But since I was asked multiple times by people who thought that it may help them, I found some free time and did a quick how-to of my work.

So please, do not take this very seriously, I did not eat all the world's whisdom and I'm willing to improve, both as a cosplayer and as a blogger as well, since the quality of this Ciel transformation is weak due to the lack of technical equipment (no proper artificial lights, no camera, no stative - I literally took all the photos on my phone on daylight, I'm sorry.)

Before eye make-up - preparations

I personally always like to apply skincare and my base make-up first, because I don't want to re-apply all the steps which I do on the bottom eyelinner. I suppose that applying the base make-up after eye make-up would also make it look more patchy and not united overall. If you use qualitative eyeshadows, eye primer and tap off an excess eyeshadow off the brush before applying, there would be very minimal to none fallout under your eye, so it seems pointless and more complicated to apply base products afterwards.
If you are a beginner or if you have normal eyes, I also suggest to apply circle lenses before your make-up. I have very sensitive, problematic eyes which do not allow me to see clearly about an hour after applying lenses, that's why I decided to apply them at the end. But it's safer not to do that, since you will decrease the chance to get any make-up products under your lens.
Also - VERY IMPORTANT! Whenever I do cosplay, I always use to find an actual eye of the character, from the front view. It's the best to search for it in actual anime or manga, because people who are making fanarts sometimes tends to change the shape or color of the official look. I always place it in front of me and I'm looking at it during the whole process to make my work as much similar with the character as possible.

Let's start!

1. First I need to make a base - by covering my whole bottom eyelid with a skin colored eyeshadow, one or two shades lighter than my foundation. Then I start drawing lines where I want my eyelinner and double eyelids to be. It helps me to create the best placement of my make-up, as close to the character which I'm cosplaying. It's also way more easy to erease it when I do any mistake.
2. Then I start creating a shadow and depth of my double eyelids with "smokey eye" technique. I use at least three shadows, darkest, darker and lightest. I start with darker, then blend the top of it with lightest, and then I re-create the sharp dark line with the darkest eyeshadow in the end. Whenever it's needed I blend everything properly with a clean, small blending brush.
3. Since I adore contrast and more anime-looking eyelids, I'm adding very light or white eyeshadow right under the darkest line with a precise brush.
4. When drawing my eyelinner, I'm starting in the inner corner of my top eyelid. I'm drawing the top eyelinner with round brush or pen eyelinner, and the bottom line with flat, precise brush dipped in black eyelinner. Using brush instead of an applicator from the liquid eyelinner allows me to adjust the amount of eyelinner which I want to use, so it's easy to create thinner lines.
5. Instead of using mascara, I use the eyelinner for painting my lashes black and filling my lashline. I'm doing this step because I need to cover the roots of my eyelashes. But if the mascara works for you, keep using it!
6. This is where I'm putting the lenses in my eye. But if you're a regular lens user, please do this as a first step, after your skincare. For Ciel I choosed Max Tri-Tone Elegance Blue lenses, not only to add color but also to enlarge my iris. I usually follow the color, design and size of character's eye when I'm shopping for my cosplay lenses.
7. Add lashes! I'm always cutting my lashes, they will hold their shape better and won't turn around or peel. I apply lashes where the character have it - Ciel have them the most visible in the middle of the eye. After the glue dries, I re-apply liquid eyelinner on the top of the glue and lashband, to make them less visible when I close my eyes.

Done!
